As posted before, a friend and I are planning to return with my dad to help him assess damage and salvage what he needs for his family during the month displacement.
I trust that the authorities will be doing their best but these guys cannot possibly guarantee our safety, with good reason. Will we be allowed to bring firearms with us into Kenner? I understand that martial law temporarily suspends any local/state laws and am confused about how this relates to protecting yourself...
I am NOT some off-the-hook commando, I just refuse to take any chances in this situation when it comes to my father.
Regards, TK

I understand people need their things. I have a fish tank and a hermit crab I would love to get in there and grab, but please remember to be safe. If the National Guard is in force in the area I wouldn't be at all surpised if any firearms were confiscated. I really think it's best to wait a bit longer. You might want to check with your insurance company, mine has agreed to cover any costs incurred during this disaster, including hotel, food and clothing. Perhaps you could check with them and purchase some things to keep everyone comfortable until we are offically allowed to go back in. It's going to be very difficult getting in when the rest of the area is doing everything they can to get out. I know everyone has items that are extemely valuable like old photos and heirlooms, but those things can be remembered and salvaged later, human life cannot.

You make a good point Amber. Thanks. I am worried about even the stuff I have in storage facility at 616 Jefferson Highway before the big curve. i wonder if its still there..?? I have to remind myself that belongings are just belongings, at least I life.
Its still hard though..

I believe homeowners and renters insurance also cover things in storage. I just keep telling myself that even if everything is lost it's a chance to get new things, doesn't help much with the sentamental things, but I hate most of my furnature, so that's good.
