Dealing with FEMA can be a challenge, but it can be done. We experienced the eye of both Francis and Jeanne last year, here on the Treasure Coast of Florida. (Not even close to what you all are experiencing but tough just the same.) Patience is the most important quality to nurture. That… and the ability to stand (or sit) for long periods of time. Keep records of everything that you do. Keep names… and if possible. phone numbers. Always ask: What do I do next? When do I do it? Where do I do it? Who do I do it with? The task can seem quite daunting at times but you will get through it. Remember… they are there to help you and are swamped… and human. I found myself getting really frustrated with what seemed like the most incredible mess I had ever seen. But once I settle down and was determined to see it through, clouds began to lift.
I found that there were many additional resources at the FEMA center here. They even had a psychological support group. Don’t be embarrassed to ask for any help that you need. (Remember… get names, phone numbers and even email addresses if you can.)
Finally… to repeat. Be SURE to keep a record of who you talked to and what transpired.
Good luck and God Bless!
