Does anyone know the status of the (former) St. Elizabeth's Orphanage on Napoleon near St. Charles?
God bless every person trying to help NOLA in any way.

Our house is right across Jena from St. Elizabeth's. Had you actually already moved in? On other boards I've seen that there is no water in the area, but lots of trees down. I don't know specifically about the tree on the riverside of Perrier and Jena or the one on the riverside of Perrier farther down towards Cadiz -- we're worried about them both. All reports I've read say no looting in the area yet except at the Sav-a Center -- I hope Zara's is okay. Copeland's was used to stage evacuation of Memorial and lakebound on Napoleon, so there have been police and officials in the area. There are photos of Valence and Prytania, Joseph St., and Valence and St. Charles on the NOLA.com website at post #4686. Trees down, but all intact. We're the house where Dali painters just completed their 3-monthe project; the yard with the beagle and shih-tzu -- they're safely in Little Rock with us. Hope you're safe, too. I can be reached at tpaulson@cox.net. Would love to hear from neighbors.

I've seen these same photos and a flood map. South of St.Charles really only seems to have wind damage. Tuesday AM my stepmother went from the Touro Informary on Foucher Street to their home on Valence. It really wasn't too bad at that time. Branches, screendoors, and shingles blown around. Some trees down. This is about the best off area of the city.

Moogiep, thanks so much for the info. First of all, let me say I'm glad you are safe! It's not me but my family that recently moved in at St. E's. They are OK but of course worried about all their friends and neighbors, their church (Trinity Episcopal), and their home. They have lived in Uptown for years, previously on Webster and after that on Henry Clay.
Another relative, also safe, thank God, has a house on Chestnut St. near Audubon Park. They were not able to go home to get their cat, so if you (or anyone) have contact with someone in NOLA doing animal rescues, Sugar needs to be saved! Please, anybody, post here about that if anyone can get to the cat, so I can give them the info they need. I sent an email about her to Noah's Wish (www.noahs-wish.org), the animal rescue organization, so maybe they will be able to get her out.
I will pass your message on to my family. Thanks so much! God bless you and keep you safe.

From Napoleon to at least Cadiz (behind St. Elizabeth's) , Perrier's trees are standing and there is little wind damage. Also, the National Guard is setting up a command post at Sophie Wright Middle School which means strong military presence in the area.

Redwine, Crusel, Collier, Andrews families -- Walt was able to get to our house on Tuesday, and ALL IS WELL. All the trees survived upright and all roofs are intact. Crusels lost a couple of shutters. We have pictures of our neighborhood. An Arkansas National Guad Cavalry troop is staging from Sophie Wright -- its commander is a former aide of Pepper's, so we feel pretty comfortable about security. I can be reached attpaulson@cox.net or 501-804-8902. Terry Paulson
